It was recently revealed that Toby Fox, developer of the extremely popular RPG Undertale, had been approached by Nintendo execs about the possibility of porting the game to the Wii U.

Well, not necessarily recently. This tweet from Fox indicates that this actually happened a while ago, but we’re really just hearing about it now:

Undertale, an RPG about a young child who falls into an underground world populated by monsters, was released last September on Steam. It very quickly became regarded as one of the best games to have been released last year.

There may, however, be an impediment to the game coming to the console, however: Game Maker, the system that Fox used to develop the game, is not compatible with Nintendo’s systems:

Another developer called Broken Rules, however, has offered to provide any assistance in porting the game should this arrangement go forward:

While I personally do not own a Wii U (yet), I do own this game for my PC and highly recommend it. It’s a delightfully quirky game with unique characters, plot, and gameplay mechanics. It’s also only $9.99 on Steam currently, so the cost isn’t bank-breaking either.

Of course, nothing is set in stone right now, and it is possible that the game will not be ported. I do believe, however, that porting it would be a good move. I believe that it would benefit not only Nintendo and Fox, but also consumers, as it would provide another means of accessing the game that may have been closed to them before.
